ENLIGHTENMENT AND ITS REFLECTION IN MATHEMATICS IN LATIN AMERICA, PARTICULARLY IN BRAZIL, IN THE 19TH CENTURY

Resumo

I present a few remarks on the period known as Enlightenment. These remarks are based on a concept of knowledge which contemplates its generation, organization and diffusion by a
cultural group (family, community, society). This concept is the basis for my interpretation of Enlightenment. Then I proceed to a brief presentation of Mathematics in Latin America in the 18th and early 19th centuries.
